On Feathered Avarris (Auraii Avarris)
- Strictly herbivores, meat usually makes them ill.
- Feathers usually cover the majority of their body but some might also have talons for arms and legs instead.
- Feathers can come in any array of color and any brightness, making the population quite colorful.
- Under the feathers is just skin, it's usually the same color as their overall body.
- It's entirely possible for an adult to never grow their feathers in a decent manner, however these are looked down upon as they seem defective or ill.
- Round pupils and fully colored eyes are common among this sub-species.
- Close-knit society, females often look after each-other's kids and it's not uncommon for a child to feel like they have multiple mothers.
- Transgender Feathered are fairly common.
Biology / Physical Traits
Auraii Avarris are always covered in a pelt of feathers, hence the nickname 'Feathered' Avarris. They often resemble birds but they might also occasionally look similar to other fluffy creatures. Because of the feathers they are covered with, they thrive more in colder climates where their siblings may struggle.

Auraii can differ greatly from individual to individual. Males and females looking distinct from one another, even at a distance. Males tend to be very flashy, which is considered attractive to the females, but doesn't guarantee a mate.
Auraii are the most common breed to have either no horns, or differently shaped horns, they are also the only breed that can posses bird-like talons. They commonly have wings, extra feather growth is fairly common as well. Auraii, together with Fiora, are the only breeds that can have an entirely different tail than the reptile-like tail that's common in the species. Auraii make for agile fliers and great aerial acrobats, they're very quick and nimble but they don't have a very great endurance for flying long distances. |
Female Auraii often have a pair of breasts that they can use to feed their newly hatched children. It's very common for them to make groups, or flocks, with all sorts of other Avarris and even Avia harpies mixed in. They love taking looking after children, but will also take less fortunate folk under their wings and in their group. This is generally an advantage to everyone involved as Auraii are known to make excellent midwives and very loving substitute parents. They are happy to help any budding mother with either looking after their newborn, or guiding other Avarris trough pregnancy. Males also occasionally may help with this, but are a lot less effective than their opposite sex.
Due to their very social nature and commonly large flocks, having multiple partners is very common among Auraii Avarris. Some may prefer to be monogamous but this is fairly uncommon.

Eggs & Egg CareAuraii eggs are usually the most diverse and colorful, the appearance of the egg depending entirely on the individual who laid them. Some eggs can be very rich in color, while others are a stark white. What causes this to happen is unknown, but it's common practice for the mothers to keep at least part of the egg shell and fashion it into jewelry for either themselves, or their child, or the other parent of the child.

Auraii eggs are typically rather fragile. They're not that fragile that one touch destroys them, but if dropped there is a very slim chance the egg survives. The eggs are typically the size of an ostrich egg, but can grow bigger if the mother allows it to. It is, however very dangerous for them to do so. The eggs are commonly kept in a nest, either made by the flock they are a part of, or a nest made of cloth in the living room, either way works. Anything to not have to move the egg around too much.
It is common to see Auraii carry around their eggs in a blanket that's tied around their body when it's a month or so away from hatching, or when they just want to keep an eye on their unborn child.

Auraii vs Avia
Auraii Avarris and Avia Harpies are very similar to one another, even down to their genetics. They have a similar ancestor they stem from and are able to have children with one another. Auraii are not related to the feral harpies that roam the wilds.
Auraii, while being similar to the Avia, also have some stark differences to one another. Mainly being that Avia always have talons and a bird tail, while the Auraii can have a more lizard-like tail, as well as parts of the bird tail that allows them to steer in the air. Auraii also have the ability to spew elemental magic like all Avarris. Auraii and Avia also differ in which the Avia always have wings on their lower arms, never on their backs like the Avarris. Avia are also usually flightless while Auraii fly about whenever they can.
Children of Avia and Auraii have a very large chance of having traits of both parents, like talons and long feathers on their arms. Occasionally the longer feathers on their arms may also be fully fledged wings, however when that is the case, they rarely ever have wings sprouting from their backs.
