On Plant Avarris (Fiora)
- Fiora Biology seems to be different from the other Avarris sub-species, they live mostly off of the nutrients in the soil and photosynthesize like plants. They also need to be watered frequently.
- They are commonly Genderfluid, literally changing their physical gender during the different seasons. Males are a lot more common in Winter, and Females are a lot more common in Spring.
- Roots are ingrained into scales and flesh, some suggesting Fiora are parasitic in nature. The root limbs are hollow but very sturdy, almost wood-like.
- The flower bulbs on their tail are female reproductive organs, similar to a scaled Avarri's eggs. It also acts as a great indicator of health, as the flowers tend to wilt when a Fiora is ill or doesn't properly take care of themselves.
- They rarely have horns, more often being able to grow little flowers on their heads. However when they do have horns, they are often similar to their root limbs.
- Fiora commonly despise Armored Avarris as both species tends to eat one another's eggs.
Biology / Physical Traits
Fiora Avarris are a plant-based species. They commonly have woven root-like limbs rather than the scaled, plated or even feathered limbs the other sub-species have. Underneath the roots their limbs appear to be entirely hollow, up to their knees and elbows.

Fiora mostly feed on the nutrients in the dirt, their root-hands being excellent tools to dig with, the species is also known to photosynthesize. A Fiora photosynthesizes by digging a shallow hole in the sunlight, and sitting in it, covering both their hands and feet with the dirt they dug up. The flower on their tail is usually between their legs to both protect it and to more efficiently take in the sunlight.
Fiora have their own small sub-groups that have different needs when compared to one another. The most rare among them being the Rose Fiora, who have very specific soil requirements that only occur in select spots in Arivir. Rose Fiora are often posh and vain, but also very intelligent, much like the typical elf, who they get along great with. The more common ''weed'' Fiora are less specific about their needs and could potentially survive in a sandbox, as long as they have access to water. |
Wings in Fiora nearly always either mimic leaves or look like bug wings. It made some speculate that Armored and Fiora are more closely related than the other sub-species. But this has never been properly confirmed.
Some Avarris speak of tree-based Fiora, tall Fiora that hibernate under the world. They would've been the first Fiora that walked the earth until they disappeared, until the mother-dragon took her children back. Nowadays the tree Fiora are mostly present in folklore and myths made by the sub-species.
When the seasons change, so do the Fiora. To keep their need to photosynthesize low in the winter months, the majority of the population loses their flowers and turn into males. And with spring there comes a larger want to reproduce, turning the majority of the population into females. Because of this change, it's very common for the population to not identify as either gender, either going by Agender, Non-Binary or Genderfluid.

Eggs & Egg Care
A Fiora doesn't actually lay eggs, instead when a mother is expecting, they tend to hold and carry around their flowerbulb, as it will grow and swell until it eventually falls off. A female Fiora without a flower is infertile.
After the bulb has fallen off, the Fiora will bury the stem of the flower in the soil, allowing it to grow roots to properly absorb nutrients for the growing child. Usually the bulb is left in the earth outside, but some parents might feel safer with keeping the bulb in a large plant pot and keeping an eye on it. Bulbs belonging to Rose Fiora, like their parents, have a much more specific mineral need, as well as temperature need. It is very common among Roses to have miscarriges. |
Keeping a bulb inside is a huge taboo among Fiora, as it is important to their culture to allow their children to be birthed in the same soil their parents came from, but it also exposes them to the lone Armored Avarri who is looking for a snack.
