On Skarrid Avarris
- Commonly believed to be the personifications of certain mystical aspects of the world. (magic and star signs, mainly)
- Skarrid are naturally infertile, the only way a new one is born is with the death of another Skarrid. Twins have a symbiotic relationship and depend on one another to survive.
- Skarrid commonly have traits no other Avarris has, such as fur growth or a veil that shows the night sky.
- Skarrid are omnivores but prefer a varied diet that combines meat, fruits and veggies. They aren't shy of eating bugs, but find it hard to properly incorporate them.
- Skarrid often have special abilities that are specific to them and can not be taught to other Avarris.
- A common belief is that if you befriend a Skarrid, they will give you a blessing. However what kind of blessing is never disclosed.
- Skarrid are infertile, adoption is fairly common for them, even among their own breed.
Biology / Physical Traits
Skarrid Avarris, in their essence, are the children of the stars. They are a powerful people that often hold positions of power over the common Avarris. Skarrid are one of the oldest existing sub-breeds, but also have the smallest population on Arivir, not usually reaching more than 80 individuals.
What a Skarrid's beastial parts are made out of is unknown, it's harder than an Armored Avarri's natural armor, but also soft like their human skin. They are the only sub-breed that can have natural fur growth on their beast parts, although even among their small population it is a rare occurrence.
Skarrid always have one extra eye, which they can use to peer trough the stars with. But it is also fully functional as a separate eye, usually it's also able to move independently from a Skarrid's main set of eyes. Sometimes they also have eyes appear in other places, usually in pairs. Asymmetry on a Skarrid is very rare, but possible. A Key feature to all Skarrid is their strange tail decorations. They are born with these and are non-removable. The shape of this supposed spine is always in the shape of their corresponding sign, be it zodiac or some sort of element. |

Skarrid are immortal, they do not physically age past adulthood and can not die of natural causes. They can be killed, however, if one is determined enough, but it will only destroy their physical form. When a Skarrid dies, their essence is transferred to another egg and they will be reincarnated, this might cause two Skarrid to be related by blood, but having nothing else in common (ex: Aries and Cancer came from the same clutch and are technically brothers.)
However if the target Skarrid has a twin, killing one will essentially kill both of them as the surviving twin will shut down and refuse to take care of themselves further. It is possible to keep the surviving Skarrid twin alive, at the cost of them being able to reincarnate, by hooking them up to life support. However doing so is considered inhumane.
A reincarnated Skarrid may inhibit traits of the breed they were born to, for example: If Gemini was born into a feathered family, they might have feathers covering their beast parts, rather than the ''skin'' they usually have. Speculations

Special Features & Abilities
Magic
All Skarrid have innate magical abilities specific to them. They are not restricted to the magic Avarris can typically learn, which makes them powerful, but also dangerous to the common folk. Their magic/abilities do not necessarily abide by the magical laws nature has put in place. Skarrid are commonly able to bend the rules of magic, however not to a point where they can break the rules as it is their duty to keep balance in the world. Although an evil-aligned Skarrid might actually find that breaking point and use it to their advantage. While this has happened once before, the Council is doing their best to keep it from happening again, and usually keeps very close tabs on what Skarrid is able of what magic and to what extent.
All Skarrid are born with an innate telepathy to other Skarrid. A defense mechanism, left over from the old times, which allows them to contact others of their kind when something is going awry. In current times their telepathy is more often used to chat and check up on one another.

Skarrid Language
Skarrid have their own language, although it has been largely forgotten and only a few of the old Skarrid remember this language. The written language is largely akin to a combination of braille and constellations, dots are specifically arranged and connected with small lines. Skarrid names are always the constellation they embody, even if they picked a different name for themselves.
